What makes a Kitchen Remodeler stand out?

It is a great question and best answered by sharing not only beautiful pictures but also the process of completing the project.

The walnut countertop was harvested from client’s property.  It is also used for the hood above the stove.  One may naturally think the countertop for the island in a solid piece, but it is not.  It is five pieces joined together.

A tree on the property was dying.  We cut it down to have a 20-foot log that was milled into lumber.  The wood then went through kiln drying, a process where the wood is placed into a large, oven-like chamber called a kiln. Unlike simple air-drying, kiln drying is a controlled process that uses heated air, fans, and humidity controls to dry the lumber to a precise moisture content, typically between 6% and 10%.   For this kitchen the wood was kiln dried down to 8 to 9% moisture.

After being removed from the kiln, the wood was acclimated to the surrounding environment. This step allows the wood’s moisture level to balance with the air’s humidity, preventing damage that could result from a rapid change in conditions.

And finally, the wood was planed down to create this uniquely gorgeous kitchen countertop.

We also created this wall cabinet from the wood.

The wood was used for even more of this kitchen remodeling project, namely the stove hood.  Solid wood is the top piece that is touching the ceiling.  The larger piece that follows, that is a little redder is not solid wood, but is a veneered plywood with a walnut skin.  Veneer plywood is a construction material made by laminating thin layers of wood veneer together, typically with the grain of each layer at right angles to the others for strength.  Finally, the bottom 8″ piece that runs horizontal is the wood from the property.   All combined wood provides a one of kind unique appeal.

Here we can see the solid wood countertop and wall unit in the background.  Looking below the countertop are maple cabinets painted green.  The center of each cabinet is also veneered maple plywood.

Remodeler shows a beautiful kitchen with geographical significance

This next picture allows you to continue to appreciate our craft as a Kitchen Remodeler along with feeling for the surrounding environment.

Similar to the previous picture, we show the 5-piece maple doors and drawers.  The center piece is dadoed in to the rails (horizontal) and styles (vertical).  In woodworking, when we reference “to dado”, it means to cut a rectangular groove or channel across the grain of a piece of wood.

The floating shelf above the window is also using walnut wood from the property.

Speaking of the property allows us to appreciate the 10-acre plot that sits on the Point of Moran Creek, visible from three different directions.  It is a mixture of geography and history.  The “point of Moran Creek” in Virginia’s Northern Neck is a geographical location on the Corrotoman River, just north of the creek, known as Moran Wharf. This wharf is a landmark that marks the beginning of the Corrotoman River’s Eastern Branch. The Eastern Branch, in turn, points northeast and splits into two smaller tributaries: Camps Prong and Norris Prong.  The Northern Neck region itself is known for its rich history, including being the birthplace of several U.S. presidents and playing a role in early American history.

It’s no wonder our customers will enjoy their newly remodeled kitchen inside and the most beautiful views outside too.

Many reasons to remodel the kitchen

We wanted to open up the kitchen to create a better connection with the rest of the home and bring in more natural views.  Here is how the room looked before the arrival of Mast Builders.  It is hard to believe how cramped the space was, especially when you see the grandiose space we created.

The planning for a Kitchen Remodeler

A lot of work took place well before the actual construction commenced.  This is a specialty that cannot be overlooked including a 3D Render, elevation plans, measurements, floor plans and construction specifics.   And there are many other details not included here. Quick thank you too to Creative Cabinet Works.

Taking accurate measurements for a new kitchen remodel is obviously one of the critical initial steps in the design and planning process. Precise measurements ensure that cabinets, appliances, countertops, and other features fit perfectly and that the layout functions efficiently.

The demolition begins the transformation for a new kitchen

We began by removing walls to entertain better and see more of the water views.

Demolition by Kitchen Remodeler to expose water views.

Then we removed the flooring, ceiling and insulation to redirect the wiring to the wall. We had to go into the crawlspace and unhook from the panel box, pull it all out, drill holes and reroute it.  Unfortunately, there was no way of knowing the wiring was in the walls – among the many unknowns when demolitions take place.  Then we had to move the plumbing pipes that are projecting out of the floor to a new location.

Things were moving along after we moved the plumbing, moved the wiring and installed the new hardwood floor. The ceiling was next to be completed.

The ceiling is now all patched up and the cabinet installation has begun.

Repeat business is where our story began

While this kitchen remodel is impressive, we like to feel the continuation of our relationships is even more inspiring.  A few years back Mast Builders was the Bathroom Remodeler for the following project.  It is a gorgeous project too and it just slipped us taking pictures at this time.  Also with beautiful views, the room starts with black slate tile.
